3 Great Reasons to Hire a Certain Criminal Attorney

Click on the first five results you get and take a good look at them. Now, here’s the bet. Other than the names and some of the numbers, I bet there is almost no difference between any of those results. They all talk about the same things. I’m aggressive. I’m experienced. I’m dedicated.

What’s the point here? The point is, if they are all saying it, how can you know who’s telling the truth and who’s fudging? And better yet, do those qualities even matter when you’re hiring a criminal lawyer? What if those qualities don’t even matter.

Sadly, I must admit that I too subscribe to some of these methods. It’s simply a blind following the blind situation. I see that someone has that information so I want to have that information. But it doesn’t make a good attorney. And it doesn’t make anyone else good either.

So I’ve decided to write this article to talk about the things that you really should want to know. The thing that really matter. And, more importantly, the things that really don’t matter. Because, in reality, there are more of those things that don’t matter than things that do matter.

First, the things that do matter. You must have these qualities in your criminal lawyer. First, they must practice criminal law. Second, they must have at least 75% of their practice devoted to criminal defense (if they don’t they just can’t keep up on the latest case law, trends, strategies, and other information that is important for good representation). And third, they must be a little bit more expensive than you want to pay (this is for two reasons: good representation isn’t cheap; and if they are cheap, it means they won’t have enough time or enough professionally invested to help you on your case).

Those are your three great reasons to hire a criminal defense attorney.

Now, some reasons not to hire someone. First, because the criminal attorney was a former prosecutor. What that really means is they are used to having cases handed to them on a silver platter and not having to do much work. One of my best strategies in any case is to make the prosecutor’s work – it usually results in a great deal for my client. Second, a great “win/loss” record. The problem with this is that these numbers can be skewed in several different ways. Another problem is that no two cases are alike. Just because someone got a good result for a former client does not mean you will get the same. And third, and finally, you do not want to hire your criminal defense attorney because they are the cheapest. Cheap attorneys do cheap work and get cheap results. Period.
